Easy Steps to Prevent Razor Burn

For men, one of the most irritating sensations they feel daily is from shaving. There are multiple solutions they find to lessen the discomfort, such as putting small cuts of toilet paper all over the face, changing the aftershave from the one with alcohol to the one without alcohol, changing to an electric razor, or just by not shaving at all and risk to have the messy look which is unprofessional for most kind of jobs. No one is willing to waste time and money looking for expensive products to treat the razor burn.

Here is one thing you can do. Instead of shaving every day, try skipping one or two days. It is a simple solution for many men to minimize irritation, but it may not work for some. Before you shave, you can soften your face by taking a shower. By doing this, your whiskers will stand up. If you do not feel like showering, you can use a warm cloth instead, by putting it on your face for a few minutes before you shave.

Rub in a thick shaving cream covering every spot on your face and let it soak for a minute or two into your skin. After that, make sure you use a good shaving product with more than two blades so you will not be forced to drag the razor over the same spot more than once. You must never press your face with the razor. Let the razor do the work without stress by just pulling it along your skin. Replace your blades every two weeks to prevent them from dulling on your face.

To make sure the blades are not clogged with hair so they can pull hair correctly; always rinse them while you shave. After shaving, immediately apply skin lotion or aftershave, either balms or oils, preferably the ones without alcohol. This is done to soothe sore spots and prevent your skin from irritation. You may also use a cream with 1 percent of hydrocortisone that will help reducing blood flow to the areas, but do not use it daily. Aloe vera gel or an emollient cream that contains natural ingredients could be another option since it promotes healing. If you want to reduce redness and discomfort, you can go for cortisone cream. In case you cannot get your hands on aloe vera gel or cortisone cream, just use cold water on your face and pat dry.

Most importantly, do not rush through while shaving. Just take your time as it will give you better results. It is much more worth it than having cuts, swellings, and infections all over your face.
